Variable frequency drive finds its application in number of electrical equipment from small scale motors to high level turbines and compressors[2]. With the rising trends of inverter technology variable frequency drive has an integral role to play in such technologies. I’m talking about Dc inverter air conditioners and refrigerators are very popular these days but their prices are slightly high as compared to conventional products. But these products renders vast benefits i.e efficient and reduce energy bills, lets say we have a 3 hp air conditioner running in our room for 17 hours a day, even a small decrease in speed of motor can save electricity bills by 40-45 percent.What VFD does is it slowly increase the speed of motor to its operational speed unlike if connected directly to ac mains the starting current is so high that it can damage the motor in the long run.VFD reduces this mechanical stress on motors and gives soft start increasing the stability and performance of motors. So the scope of this project is vast .We have discussed with professionals in this particular arena and they have motivated us to take this project as it yields vast benefits and has a serious market value. Relatively this is an impact technology and big chance for us to work on it as we have chosen this to be our FYP. If we are able to design this VFD that will be of great significance and a big achievement nonetheless.
